Vacation - Train Ride

(Friday)

So Friday morning we got up and headed into town for our second 90 minute vacation package presentation. The gentleman who gave us the tour and presentation was very nice and it was not high pressure at all, which was so appreciated. We ended the tour and headed out to Cottonwood to pick up the train for our 4 hour ride through the Verde Valley. The ride started out with overcast skies and a little bit of rain. A nice break in the weather! It was a relaxing and fun ride. After we got back into town we had dinner at Nic's, a restaurant our friend who hooked us up on the helicopter ride told us about. Another great recommendation!

Outside on the open car.

Our first class train car. We had a seat by the windows on the right, which had the best views. They served great appetizers and had a cash bar.

A bear cave, but no bear sitings. I did see a couple of blue herons (pretty cool) and some cows.

A bald eagle's nest. There were eagles in the area but we didn't see any. Those that rode on the outside cars said they saw some.

The town we pulled into had a train depot that was filmed for the movie, The Wild Wild West with George Peppard and Debbie Reynolds. They said that they blew up the water tank for the movie but the scene ended up on the cutting room floor. The water tank was never rebuilt.

A nice way to end our time in Arizona.

Deb, your vacation sounded fabulous! I love all the pictures. WE are in Memphis now. Richard has a estruded disc in his neck and will has to wait till Monday for a procedure. Pray that God sees fit to let this alleviate his pain.
