I Love Milwaukee!

I had never been to Milwaukee until we moved to Chicago. The first time we visited was in November of last year. We drove up Friday night after Kirk got off of work. I had found a good deal on an Art Deco hotel near Marquette. We ate at a French restaurant downtown in an area called The Third Ward. The next morning we went downtown to the Public Market and had breakfast. We were really impressed with the town and knew that we would go back when the weather turned warmer.

That is exactly what we did several weeks ago. We had planned to go to Arlington Park Racetrack on Sunday afternoon to watch the horse races only to find out that they weren't running races that day. So instead we headed up to Milwaukee. It was a beautiful sunny day and the drive is only an hour and a half from where we live. As we got close to the city we decided we were hungry and set out to look for a place to eat first thing. We ended up in a part of town called the East Side. We parked and asked a local where we should eat and he recommended a Mexican restaurant down the street. The weather was so beautiful that we decided to eat outside. We loved the area. It was eclectic and diverse. I don't know what it is about the town, but I love it! Maybe it is because the people are so nice. Maybe it is because they take pride in their city. Maybe it is because it has a community feel. Or maybe all of the above.

A cool coffee shop across the street.

Milwaukee is also called the City of Festivals. It has a festival, or two, almost every weekend in the summer. So last weekend we headed back to Milwaukee for the Polish Festival. It was another glorious day and the festival was in a park on the lake. We enjoyed the food and the entertainment. We walked along the lake and enjoyed the cool breeze and watching the sailboats. When we left the festival we drove back over to the East Side and sat outside and enjoyed a refreshing drink. I think we will be seeing a lot of Milwaukee this summer!

Two performers taking a break.

The costumes the dancers wore were beautiful.

We thought this was a beautiful picture of the Nun.

We loved this! A pedal Tavern.

Our refreshing drinks.
